Meet UPWARD’s lecturer Tatia Karkashadze

Learning Chinese is often perceived as a daunting challenge. However, mastering it makes you an exceptionally competitive candidate in today’s job market.

At Upward Online Academy, you have the opportunity to master one of the world’s most in-demand languages with a professional instructor. We are excited to introduce Tatia Karkashadze, who will be leading our Chinese language courses.

Tatia studied International Relations at Alte University, where she also began mastering Chinese at the Confucius Institute. In 2024, she was awarded a full Chinese Government Scholarship and spent a year in the People’s Republic of China at the prestigious Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), pursuing advanced language studies. During this period, she successfully passed the high-level Chinese proficiency exam (HSK 5).

Currently, Tatia works as an interpreter for a Chinese company. She also collaborates with various translation bureaus, frequently providing interpreting services for different state institutions.

Tatia has always been passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. For her, teaching is the profession that best allows her to realize her personal and professional strengths. As a result, she has been successfully conducting online classes for over two years.

What will you learn in the Chinese language course?

The Chinese language course covers the four core components of language learning: writing, reading, speaking, and listening. In addition, special attention is given to developing translation skills, which helps students apply Chinese in practical settings and achieve their future career goals.

Due to the unique logographic nature of Chinese writing, significant focus is placed on the reading and writing components. Tatia’s primary goal is to ensure that students can speak confidently according to their level—whether beginner or intermediate. Therefore, a vital part of the curriculum involves expanding vocabulary and mastering the correct use of grammatical structures.

The primary resource for this course is the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Standard Course textbook, which sets the international standard for Chinese proficiency exams. This ensures that students are fully prepared to take the official certification exams for their respective levels.

Simultaneously, students will have the chance to explore elements of Chinese culture, prepare presentations on relevant topics in both Georgian and Chinese, and present individual or group projects/assignments both orally and in writing.

At the end of the course, students will undergo a mock HSK exam and deliver an online presentation on a topic of their interest, ensuring they gain valuable practical experience.

To future students, Tatia’s advice is not to be intimidated by the complexity of the Chinese language. With quality study of each language component and a bit of self-discipline, any challenge in the learning process can be easily overcome.
